A study published in the Nature Climate Change Journal by scientists from the London School of Hygiene and  Tropical Medicine recorded data in 43 countries to  prove that climate change is the reason behind one-third of all heat-related deaths in the world.

The study found that 37% of all heat-related deaths were a result of human-induced climate change. This percentage of deaths was the highest in Central and South America- upto 76%, and South-east Asia- upto 61%.

One of the authors of the study, Ana M. Vicedo-Cabrer, said that they expected the number of climate-change induced heat deaths to drastically increase in the following years if proper mitigation measures were not taken globally.

Even though the global average was 37%, the researchers say that the percentage varies across regions. They also noted that developing nations with low and middle income were the worst affected countries.

The researchers stated that the study was not comprehensive, because they were unable to find data for large parts of South-east asia.

Another author, Antonio Gasparrini, said that this was the largest study on the impacts of human-induced climate change on health.
